White House: Congress not smart enough to assess Trump taxes

Trump specifically singled out the Democratic mayor of Oakland, Libby Schaaf, who had criticized a proposed policy to relocate detained immigrants to sanctuary cities as an "abuse of power and public resources".

Appearing on ABC News' This Week, Sanders said the proposal was initially brought up at a staff level, where it was determined that "there were a lot of challenges and it didn't make sense to move forward" from a logistical standpoint, but Trump pushed for it to be explored further.

Lawmakers from Trump's Republican Party have accused Omar of minimizing the September 11, 2001, hijacked plane attacks by al Qaeda on the United States that killed nearly 3,000 people, while critics of the president say he took Omar's words out of context in order to stoke anti-Muslim sentiment.

"In California, the governor wants to have a lot of people coming in, refugees coming in, a lot of sanctuary cities, so we'll give them to the sanctuary cities maybe to take care of if it's that the way we want it", he said during an event at the White House.

But the IRS has said that he could release the returns even if they are under audit.

Several prominent Democrats, including presidential candidates Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, condemned Trump's tweet, saying he was inciting racism and violence toward Omar with the video.

Hundreds of US cities, along with California, the country's most populous state, have declared themselves as havens for migrants who have illegally crossed the southern USA border with Mexico, refusing the help US immigration officials to track down the immigrants so they can be deported.

"The New York Times Sanctuary Cities/Immigration story today was knowingly wrong on nearly every fact", he said.

Nadler, who is chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said it isn't "just nor is right for the president to use immigrants or people who are claiming political asylum as pawns in a fight against political opponents", Nadler said.

He later added, "Democrats must change the Immigration Laws FAST".

Trump tweeted, "So interesting to see the Mayor of Oakland and other Sanctuary Cities NOT WANT our now "detained immigrants" after release due to the ridiculous court ordered 20 day rule".

US President Donald Trump's tax returns must be given to House Democrats by 23 April, a committee chair has said.

"This is a risky unsafe road and frankly".

"My guess is majority don't do their own taxes, and I certainly don't trust them to look through the decades of success that the President has and determine anything".

The Treasury Department missed an April 10 deadline last week set by Democrats to deliver the tax returns, and Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the department hadn't decided whether to comply with the request.
