Former Spain coach Julen Lopetegui replaced Zidane but was sacked in October with Solari taking the reins at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Real Madrid's board, meeting today Monday 11 March 2019, have chose to end the contract which linked Santiago Solari to the club as first team coach, while offering him to continue working for the club", the club said in a statement.

Real Madrid boss Solari stated that Isco refused to get on the team bus ahead of their Champions League clash with Ajax, which they eventually lost, and subsequently dropped Isco for their win over Vallaolid on Sunday.

He has been heavily linked with the Chelsea job in recent months, due to the pressure on current manager Maurizio Sarri.

Zidane quit not long after Madrid won the Champions League title last season, saying that he and the club needed a change in command to keep succeeding. We are not hiding.

Zidane represents a safe pair of hands, rather than an iron fist that Florentino Perez was reported to favour in his next appointment. "We the players are primarily responsible and I, as captain, more than anyone".

They say you should never go back but it's taken Zinedine Zidane less than a year to heed that advice with the shock news that the Frenchman has become the Real Madrid manager for the second time. There's no problem whatsoever and everybody has the same interest: "@realmadrid".

"Did you argue with the President in the dressing room?". But the Ajax embarrassment seems to have been the last straw.

"Absolutely it was an error", he said. We have enormous respect for the position and we always support the Real Madrid coach. I didn't go too far, as I live here, but I am happy to work with this great club and this squad above all.

"These reflections are, without doubt, the result of a deeply disappointing season, but if success didn't stop us, we're not going to let defeat stop us".
