California wildfire destroys homes, hospital; deaths reported

Travel was limited on U.S. Highway 101 in Ventura County, state highway patrol troopers said. Gusts have reached speeds of 65 miles per hour.

"When this fire started this morning wind speeds were 35 to 40 miles per hour gusts", Cal Fire spokesperson Lynne Tolmachoff said.

It reached the edge of Chico, a city of 90,000 people Thursday night.
