Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eden Hazard named on Ballon d'Or shortlist

Antoine Griezmann has insisted that the Ballon d'Or should be awarded to a France star this year after Les Bleus won the World Cup. Although Manchester United keeper David de Gea seems to have not been chosen in the shortlist for the footballing award. Historically, the Ballon d'Or is the best of the best.

The Tottenham striker captained England to their first World Cup semi-final in 28 years in Russian Federation this summer.

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero is nominated as is another prolific South American striker, Edinson Cavani of Uruguay and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Croatian had a stellar year, leading his country to an unlikely World Cup final while also winning a third-consecutive Champions League title.

Wales forward Gareth Bale and England striker Harry Kane are among the nominees for the 2018 Ballon d'Or, BBC Sport reports.

Griezmann, who was ignored for FIFA's The Best awards, is among the top 30 for the Ballon d'Or nominees.

The award will be given on December.

In another first, the best under-21 player will receive the Kopa Trophy.

The Ballon d'Or, which was first won by Englishman Stanley Matthews in 1956, is decided by a ballot of journalists from around the world.
