Strides Against Stigma was an emotional event for many who have lost loved ones to mental illness, but the tight-knit feel of the event brought hope and community to those in attendance.

Because it's not over yet - we still need to get this issue debated in parliament, and ultimately for the law to be changed.

Dr Seape says the causes of depression and related mental illnesses in teenagers and young adults are multi-faceted: "There is the stressful nature of the teenage years - for some teenagers, the normal developmental changes of these years, such as bodily changes, new patterns of thoughts and feelings, can be unsettling and overwhelming".

Some of the Spark staff promises include, taking more time out for myself, spending more time fundraising to support our chosen charities and listening openly to family members. "I know that my organization is working to instill that awareness when people are young so that they know what it is and where to turn when they have to deal with it in life".
