Lil Wayne made the announcement in a video on YouTube Tuesday that shows the rapper walking through his recording studio. "Some fans on Twitter are already calling "Mona Lisa" the best song on the album, Tha Carter V. "'Mona Lisa' is the most fire song on the album period and don't at me", one fan wrote. The 23-track album features verses from Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Ashanti, and the late XXXTentacion.

A number of collaborators have been involved in the production of the record, including Mannie Fresh, Swizz Beatz, Metro Boomin, and Ben Billions.

The album-originally slated to drop in 2014- has, unsurprisingly, warranted a massive response from fans on social media, and is shaping up to be a major commercial success.

The rapper released the album at midnight on Thursday; five days after its pre-announced Friday, September 21 release date.

There were rumblings online about whether or not Wayne should carry on with releasing an album that was four years behind schedule.

Seven years since Tha Carter IV, Lil Wayne returns with the long-awaited fifth installment in his Carter series. I hope you enjoy it.
