"They are actually con artists because they know how quality this man is and they have destroyed a man's reputation and they want to destroy it even more and I think people are going to see that in the midterms, what they have done to this family, what they have done to these children, these handsome children of his and what they have done to his wife".

John Cornyn (R-TX) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) - have suggested that they may question Christine Blasey Ford during the hearing on Thursday, according to Politico, despite Republicans' appointment of a female prosecutor to do the questioning for them.

"This is ridiculous and from the Twilight Zone. I've had many false charges".

Republicans are looking for Kavanaugh to cement a conservative majority on the court, while Democrats say he could provide the fifth vote to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

"I believe it is my civic duty to tell you what happened to me while Brett Kavanaugh and I were in high school", Blasey Ford will say.

Ford has alleged that Kavanaugh's friend, Mark Judge, was in the room watching and laughing.

An agitated President Donald Trump acknowledged Wednesday that past accusations of sexual misconduct against him have influenced the way he views similar allegations against other men, including his Supreme Court nominee.

Collins was one of two Republicans I still voted for, but I have recently come to observe that while she talks the talk of reasonable sense and moderation, when it comes to the final vote on an issue, she votes the party line, unless her vote is not necessary to pass the question.

"Brett's assault on me drastically altered my life", Ford added. She said she managed to flee to the bathroom when Judge jumped on her and Kavanaugh, knocking them off the bed.

While Republicans want to move forward, they are mindful of the fallout if they do not take the accusations seriously.

The first allegation came from Christine Blasey Ford, who claimed that Kavanaugh assaulted her while they were in high school by trying to take her clothes off and covering her mouth when she attempted to scream.

Mr Trump slammed his Democratic opponents over the handling of the Kavanaugh nomination, accusing them of being "con artists" and destroying the 53-year-old judge's reputation.
