The Patriots could have a depth issue at another offensive position - running back.

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead is in the concussion protocol and did not participate in practice Wednesday, putting his status for Sunday's road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in question.

It's unclear when Burkhead suffered the concussion.

The Three Lions were pushing for a return to winning ways after losing 2-1 to Spain over the weekend, while Switzerland thumped Iceland 6-0 in their UEFA Nations League opener.

Burkhead and Michel's injuries put the Patriots in an uncomfortable shallow place at running back after the signed Kenjon Barner on Tuesday and placed running back Jeremy Hill on injured reserve on Monday.

Burkhead's value to the Patriots extends beyond rushing the football (he had a team-high 64 yards on 18 carries in the opener), as he is also a capable pass-catcher.

The Pats had ideal practice attendance for the second straight day. He played for the entirety of the Patriots' Week 1 win over the Houston Texans. Michel was still limited in Wednesday's practice, according to the team's injury report.
