Henry Cavill to star in Netflix's "The Witcher" series

Henry Cavill now stars in the critical and box office hit Mission Impossible - Fallout, which has earned over $649 million worldwide.

Henry Cavill has just been confirmed to be the actor portraying Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher.

The series is based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. Fresh from a stand-out turn in Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Henry Cavill will be saddling up for the epic fantasy series. When destiny puts Geralt toward a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a valuable secret, the three have to navigate a volatile Continent together. "Love that game. Really good game". We now know that the leading man is Henry Cavill taking on the role of Geralt of Rivia.

Cavill has proven himself to be a big fan of both the games and Sapkowski's novels in the past when he told IGN: "The books are wonderful". Now it seems like Cavill was preparing, as Entertainment Weekly reports he will indeed play Geralt in Netflix's show. He then went on to praise Sapkowski's books, dubbing them "amazing".

The news was announced by the show's writer and creator Lauren Hissrich who tweeted 'I didn't have writers or scripts yet - just a greenlight and a lot of passion.

Cavill is best known for playing Superman in "Man of Steel", "Batman v Superman" and "Justice League". Assume the role of a white-haired witcher named Geralt, a renowned monster-slayer-for-hire and master swordsman with superhuman strength and reflexes. Executive Producer Alik Sakharov - who's worked on House of Cards and Game of Thrones will direct half of the series, including the premiere episode.
