Three-time Formula 1 world champion Niki Lauda is recovering after undergoing a successful lung transplant.

One day after it was revealed that Niki Lauda had been hospitalized for contracting a supposed influenza virus, news has broken that the Austrian underwent a lung transplant on Thursday in Vienna. Austrian media had said he was being treated in hospital, though reports had not mentioned a transplant.

"The transplantation was successfully performed by Walter Klepetko, Head of the Clinical Department of Thoracic Surgery, and Konrad Hötzenecker".

L'entraîneur allemand s'est quant à lui exprimé ces derniers jours sur le lien qu'il avait déjà tissé avec le Brésilien. Adrien Rabiot est annoncé tout proche du Barça depuis plusieurs semaines.

He had cut short a holiday in Ibiza last week and returned to Vienna after developing a lung infection, the Osterreich newspaper reported. "We ask for your understanding that the family will not make any public statements and request the privacy of the Lauda family".

Due to poor health, Lauda has been absent from the past two F1 Grands Prix-Germany and Hungary-whereas he would typically attend on behalf of the Mercedes-AMG team with which he is a non-executive chairman.

After retirement from racing he also became an airline entrepreneur, and recently agreed to sell his controlling stake in Laudamotion to Ryanair.
