Golden Retriever Bitten by Rattlesnake While Protecting Owner on Hike in Arizona

Paula Godwin treated her golden retriever Todd to a hike Friday morning in Anthem, Arizona.

Paula Godwin says she was walking her dog Todd down a trail in Anthem, Arizona when Godwin almost stepped on the reptile. But, their casual hike took an unexpected turn as they were walking down a hill. She even posted a live video on Facebook sharing about her morning walk wishing everyone a happy day.

"My hero of a puppy Todd saved me", she wrote on Facebook. What a courageous boy!

Godwin rushed him to an animal hospital, where he was immediately given anti-venom.

Heroic pup. Todd is home and back to being a puppy again, according to his owner Paula Godwin.

The picture has been shared thousands of times on social media, garnering more than 360,000 likes and close to 73,000 retweets on just the WeRateDogs Twitter feed. Thankfully, Godwin had a guardian angel in Todd. "Of course, I would rather have been bitten by the snake, but he did [instead]. Please say a little prayer for my sweet hero", she said. She also thanked the pup's many fans on the internet for their support and kindness.

Godwin posted an update on her Facebook page for those anxious about his health and wrote, he seems to heal well.
