The group's Love Yourself: Tear opened at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 135,000 total albums in its debut week, Billboard reports.

Adding to its significance is how Love Yourself: Tear is the second K-pop album to hit a top 10 spot on the Billboard chart; BTS' earlier release, Love Yourself: Her, debuted at No. 7. on the list dated October 7, 2017.

Bangtan, which literally means bulletproof in Korean, was born out of the will to protect teenagers from prejudice and oppression.

While plenty of older music listeners in the West might be asking "who?", it's hard to underestimate the popularity of BTS and their seven stars Suga, J-Hope, Rap Monster, Jimin, V, Jungkook and Jin.
