Liberty golf finishes eighth in Raleigh Regional

One stroke was the difference for Florida State's men's golf team as the Seminoles watched their season come to an end in Norman on Wednesday.

KU, which needed to place in the top five of 13 teams to advance to the NCAAs (May 25-30 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.) on Wednesday finished the 54-hole regional at 20-under-par 844.

Florida won the NCAA Regional by 12 shots while the Gators, host team UCF, North Carolina, Vanderbilt and Kent State will advance to the NCAA Championship by virtue of their top five finish. The top 5 teams will advance to the NCAA Championships.

Napier will enter Tuesday's second round five strokes behind Nevada's Corey Eddings and SMU's McClure Meissner, who are now the individual leaders not on one of the top five teams in the current standings. Seniors Dylan Wu and Sam Triplett finished in 16th and 42nd place respectively. Fricke opened the tournament with a 13-over par 85, but just like the entire Navy squad, Fricke regrouped and played terrific over the final 36 holes where he posted marks of 74 (+2) and 73 (+1).

Baylor's third-place finish was the second-best NCAA Regional result in program history, trailing only the tie for first place at the 2017 NCAA Stanford Regional. Top-ranked Oklahoma State didn't get the job done at a home NCAA Championship in 2011. Perrine finished one shot under par for the tournament, shooting a 71 Monday, 73 Tuesday and a 71 Wednesday to finish with a score of 215. Murlick's performance broke the Marquette record for a 54-hole performance at an NCAA regional. Ruiz then had pars on his final three holes for a 68 - his team-best ninth round in the 60's this season. Auburn is one of just four teams to accomplish that feat. Andy Stewart tied for third in 2001.

Three Chanticleers each carded an even-par 72 in the opening round and are tied for 33rd. Riley, who entered the regional ranked No. 21 in the nation, collected an eagle on the par 4, 415-yard 10 hole to highlight a 3-under par back nine.

May tied for 16 with 11 birdies, while Braden Bailey, Ryan Grider and Perrine tied for 19 with 10 birdies apiece. Corner, playing as an individual, is two strokes out of the lead and ranks third out of 75 among the individual competition.
